God, how I still love private readers. It’s what we all used to be.

J.d. Salinger
About This Quote

The private reader is a person who is paid to read you your work and give you feedback. If you’re a writer, it might be a friend or family member reading your story as you write it. If you’re an actor, it might be a professional who reads your audition and provides advice and feedback. So, the private reader is someone who takes the time out of their day to spend with you and help make sure your work is as good as it can possibly be. Private readers are often one of the last people that we consider to be part of our inner circle of friends; we spend time with them because we know they will provide us with honest feedback and support, but few of us actually consider them close friends.
